All cooling units extract water from the air by forcing warm air over the evaporator/cooling coil. When this “sweating” occurs, condensation forms and drips into the drain pan. The standing water can become stale and support the growth of fungus, mold, mildew bacteria, and other microorganisms. These contaminates form a slimy buildup in the pan and drain line, causing overflows, water leaks, corrosion, damage to personal property and foul-smelling odors.
Time released drain pan treatments stay dormant when the drain pan is dry; however, they become active when water is present, releasing their active ingredients. The pan treatment strip bactericides destroy the buildup of growth that causes these challenges within the HVAC equipment.
